I was waiting to see a different game at the event and had time to kill, so I decided to try playing Intercept for a third time.

Bak mumbled something about getting used to the rules of the mode, and admitted it was a bit more difficult than a casual shooter fan like myself might expect. He didn’t have a good soundbite-quality answer, honestly. I turned to the lead designer of the Intercept mode, Arjan Bak, and asked him point blank: “How is this fun?” We couldn’t get enough points to respawn the team so I was asked to commit suicide by running out to get slaughtered by Helghast. The next time the four of us played, two developers having designed the mode and two green journalists (myself included), the same result occurred. “You should just go out there and kill yourself so we can start over.” I reluctantly acquiesced. The first time I sat down to play Intercept at the Sony Playstation pre-E3 event last week in Los Angeles, Guerrila Games staffers told me we had to restart after only a few minutes. There's no detail on how big these chunks might be, too, or what happens if you have a criminally slow internet connection.Intercept is not just another multiplayer coop Horde mode. What sort of constraints? Well, downloading individual levels for a linear shooter like Killzone: Shadow Fall would logically be easier than downloading the entire map of an open world game, and may allow you to start playing earlier. "There are some technical constraints goals related to this feature," CD Projekt boss Adam Badowski told Eurogamer, "but nothing extraordinary." The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red also previously discussed the feature's inclusion for the PlayStation 4 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. "You're going to download a chunk of the game, get the menu and first level, and while you're playing the first level we can start downloading the second in the background," Killzone developer Guerrilla's technical director Michiel van der Leeuw explained in a new developer diary (thanks, OPM). Sony previously mentioned that you'll be able to play PlayStation 4 games while they're downloading, but this is the first time we've heard more specific details on how little you'll need to have on your hard drive. Download the digital copy of Killzone: Shadow Fall and you'll be able to start playing the game as soon as its first level and main menu are downloaded.
